6Looking for a bit of adventure beyond just watching orangutans in the wild?

Most travelers visit Tanjung Puting National Park simply to check a box. At ViaVia Travel, we invite you to truly step into the rhythm of the rainforest. This immersive 3-to-5-day expedition pairs classic wildlife encounters with meaningful conservation.

By day, you will seek out majestic primates. By night, you will cruise the mysterious Sekonyer River on a kelotok (a traditional wooden riverboat) that serves as your floating hotel.

Trip Overview:

Day 1: Pangkalan Bun Airport/ Hotel – Kumai – Tanjung Harapan Camp – Houseboat (L/D)

Our local guide will meet and greet you upon your arrival at Iskandar airport in Pangkalan Bun/ hotel. Early flight arrival is recommended (before 12:00 PM) to make the most of your first day. We drive straight to Kumai harbor and start cruising up Sekonyer River.

After 2-hour cruising deeper of Sekonyer River, we will stop by the jetty of Tanjung Harapan Camp to see orangutans in their natural habitat. After a short trekking, we arrive to get to the orangutans feeding platform. Feeding time in Tanjung Harapan starts at 3 pm.
Later, we’re back to the boat and start cruising up Sekonyer River, the best time to spot wild Proboscis monkeys and other wild animal by the river. Free time in the evening and enjoy supper on the deck.
Stay overnight on board.

Day 2: Houseboat – Pondok Tanggui Camp – Camp Leaky – Houseboat (B/L/D)

Wake up to mist rising off the river and enjoy a hearty breakfast on deck. Our morning starts with a cruise to Pondok Tanggui Camp to catch the 9 AM feeding session.

Next, we travel 1.5 hours further into the heart of the national park to reach the legendary Camp Leakey, a historic sanctuary of global scientific importance. Lunch is served fresh on the deck as we sail. Upon docking, we will walk up to visit the Camp Leakey Information Center before joining the 2 PM feeding session. You’ll have time to enjoy this incredible sanctuary until 4 PM.

Afterwards, we are cruising up to the legendary Leakey Camp which takes around 1,5 hours. Lunch will be served on the kelotok. From the jetty of Leakey Camp, we’ll walk up to the camp to see the Orangutan Information Center. Then, join the orangutan feeding at 2 pm.  We’ll be enjoying Leakey Camp till 4 pm.

As evening approaches, our boat drifts slowly downstream. Relax on deck, enjoy dinner under the stars, and experience another night on our floating home.
