Bennang Kussut
fine artsAmri and Janur are a young couple who make artworks and merchandize. Like this, they make money to live and support their child. They started their business when they were still studying at the Indonesian Insti- tute of the Arts in Yogyakarta. Amri majored in painting, Janur in sculpting. They met each other there and fell in love. In 2009 they got married and in 2010 they started Benang Kusut.
At first, they sold their arts at Malioboro street. This is where they met Mie Cornoedus, the founder of ViaVia. Back then, their style was more abstract, they drew small doodles or monsters. Now, their drawings are sharper and their art typically depicts different animals, for example, the ‘underwater series’ or ‘the kingdom series’. All their works are limited edition, they make maximum 100 pieces of each animal. Their products are sold exclusively on Instagram and in the ViaVia Fair Trade Shop.
