ViaVia Jogja Travel has facilitated trainings on sustainable tourism, intercultural communication, and guiding skills since the beginning of 2000 (officially). The participants for these trainings were the yearly recruits for our freelance guides, also our permanent staff and guides. We need to provide this training as we believe in sustainable tourism as our principle and we had the knowledge and skills available to pass it on.
Besides annual training for our freelance guides, ViaVia also has conducted sessions for communities, schools, NGOs, and other organizations.
The curriculum and methods have been improved over time. We received extra training on trainers from ViaVia Tourism Academy (previously Livingstone Dialoog). The training contents and methods are adjusted depending on the goals of the training and participants.
Because of the pandemic, the last annual training for guides took place in 2020. However, we are now actively involved in community training in developing SOP’s for tourism visits at Wisata Puncak Kleco. Wisata Puncak Kleco, part of Desa Wisata Tinalah on the west side of Jogja, is one of our partners for our outdoor tours. Link to our Kleco tour here.
Recently we organized training on Preventing and Responding Sexual Harassment in Workplace for our staff (Travel, Guesthouse, Restaurant, and Bakery). We were also invited by Paguyuban Homestay Dieng Kulon (Association of Homestays in Dieng Kulon) for training on hospitality and organization in October.
At the moment (October-December 2021), we organize online and offline on job training/ internship for the students of SMKS Pancasila Tambolaka, Sumba Barat Daya.
